THE WEATHER

Hi everyone, welcome to Cape Cod and her delicious humidity.  We do have a breeze, though,  so that is something.

The temperature is 78 and forecasting 90’s today and the wind is coming from the Southwest at 4 miles an hour BUT, the humidity is 96%. (I’m melting!)

The beaches will be crowded today…

TRAFFIC

Good guess?  If the day is hot, everyone is at the beach so, traffic is light.

My daughter and son-in-law came back from Vermont Sunday, and they saw the backup. Someone at the library said it was a 2-hour delay. Was there a backup in 1929 when there was only a ferry that held 10 cars at a time? Our current bridges were built in 1935-1936 to make the Cape more accessible. (Hah). I have vowed to never go over the bridges again. I also avoid Rte. 6 the Mid-Cape, preferring instead the back roads.

THE STUDIO

Bless my little writers, so faithful in this summer of heat and humidity.  And special accolades to the Osterville Village Library staff who make our studio possible. Thanks Amy and Davis…and Cyndy for her dignity and creativity. She has landed this library into the 22 century. She is such a visionary.

WEBSITES

Recently I was offered a chance to set up a personal Author Website by BookBub.

This is what I have sent to Barbara because she is in the process of moving her site from Xlibris. Perhaps one or two of my other writers will find this information useful. (attachment)

As writers, we know we should have one but who has the time to build one?  BookBub answered that need.  Attached is a screenshot from the “net” or Google and AI about what they do.

Summer is a time to grab a book and head to the beach or find a nice shady spot under a tree to indulge that insatiable habit of reading. As a writer and author this habit can be traced back to childhood. As a reader, same thing.  When I was a young mother with babies to care for, during their naptime I had a paperback in my hands. As the children grew, trips to the library was almost a daily experience for us. How proud they were when they could present their books to the lady at the desk to be stamped. There was a 2-week borrowing time, but they read them almost immediately when we arrived home…Happy memories.

BOOKS

Speaking of…

I am still a voracious reader and with my new lenses (cataract surgery) I can actually read a hands-held book. How very exciting, although I am still addicted to audio books. These are such a part of my day because I can listen and crochet.  Here is my first baby bunny rabbit.

He is followed by many other babies.

The three Little kittens who lost their mittens… and pumpkins and a mouse, and a bee…really?  When I should be writing.  I created these babies for my granddaughter, Ale who is a speech therapist. She uses the animals to teach her little ones (ages 3 to 7) the different sounds… I don’t know who has more fun? Perhaps I will never grow up…

Personal note:

I read a wonderful book by Jodi Picoult about an animal researcher who found a baby elephant standing beside her mother who had been slaughtered for her tusks. She rescues the baby elephant against all odds. She also parallels the mother-daughter relationships between the mother elephant and her own relationship with her mother and the lessons they teach. . Brought tears.

Title: Larger than Life.

I attached two images, one the book cover for the book and a photo of two elephants sent to us (My daughter and me) from Renee while she is on safari in Africa. She entitled it, “Love African Style”.

Another book of interest was another of Jodi’s books that held my attention, THE BOOK OF TWO WAYS. A copy of this book that was found in several Egyptian tombs. Imagine going to Egypt to research that one

On a final note:

Then, we always have inquiries at the Writer’s  Studio. I never know who will show up!!!
