Writing Times
Late May Edition
Hi Everyone
WEATHER
Today, Nature threw us a curve. Temps are hovering around 50 degrees but the wind from the North is dropping it down to the low 40’s. Brrrrr. And, lest those weather gnomes think we should be graced with glimpses of summer, a full-blown Northeaster is scheduled for the next three days. Shall I go on???
TRAFFIC
Talk about Divine Timing, today, before the big blow, I have scheduled MI 14 for her Springtime Shine. The “Auto Salon” is on Willow Street which is in the midst of construction. Will update after I maneuver my way through this labyrinth.
SOLAR FLARES
New to you, but not to me, our Solar Sun has had the worst case of indigestion lately but a few days ago she had a doozie. These Solar Flares do affect us and our Space Weather which, in turn, effects our bodies and more specifically, our weather causing hurricanes, tornadoes and earth quakes. The Schumann Resonances will be bouncing. I do follow Stefan Burns, a Geophysicist who works for NOAA.

Now on to brighter topics.
WRITING STUDIO
Our live studio at the Osterville Village Library is thriving. We have 40 signed in members so far. Two members returned to touch in and update us as to their progress, Lars is seeking a publisher and Barbara has returned from Florida to settle in with us again. We have missed them both and happy to see them again.
THOUGHTS ON THE PODCAST
I am running out of topics for the podcast (CAPE COD 1929) I have done that one for more than a year (started in December 2023) with more than 70 podcasts. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas so I can continue, please let me know. My personal email address is: mailto:sdanderson.books@gmail.com?subject=idea for podcast
The other thought I have is to create a new podcast with the following ideas…. Cape Cod History which would encompass ghosts, shipwrecks, pirates, etc… maybe even witches.
Name it “Olde Cape Cod”. What are your thoughts?
BACK STORY
Traffic was snarled again at the intersection to Willow Street. They have painted nasty yellow lines on the street to funnel one lane into a left-hand turn. Then we have a left turn light… not bad and the light is long enough to allow more than three cars to pass or else traffic would be backed up to Cotuit.
The salon session went well and MI 14 looks brand new. Just in time for the Nor’easter.
AUTHORS WHO WRITE BOOKS ABOUT THE CAPE
Google search is such fun. Recently I searched for books about the Cape and brought up 6 authors I have never heard of nor read to date.
Jo McNalley
Kathy Kalmer (she has more than one)
Amy Pershing
Angela K. Ryan
Maddie Day
Carole Marsh
And my favorite, Phoebe Atwood Taylor.
I read as many of her books that I could find when I first moved to the Cape. Currently I am re-reading her first one The Cape Cod Mystery when she introduces the unlikely detective, Asey Mayo. The book was originally written in 1928 and is perfect for my research. Her dialogue is classic Cape Cod. I swear she named Asey after a jar of mayonnaise which may have been sitting on the table as she was writing her story in a notebook…
Incidentally, she feeds one of her characters a Western Sandwich while he is being held prisoner in the stocks. No jail, just stocks. This not only made me drool but brought back a memory of a young girl eating her lunch at school. Yup! A scrambled egg sandwich.
THE MANY “BOOK” SITES
Again, scanning my in-box I was overwhelmed with the amount of sites that have the word “BOOK” in its title…
BOOK LIFE (part of Publishers Weekly)
BOOK LIST REVIEW
BOOK LINK
BOOK PAGE
BOOK LOCKER (this one is my original publisher and friend Angela) I send some of my writers to her.
BOOK BUB – this is a site located in Cambridge, MA and I am currently creating an Author Website with them. I have listed them on my screen for several years and find them honest and caring and no scam. I will recommend them to my writers. When my site is finished I ‘ll send out the link. I do have an author page created by Amazon and that one has undergone changes since first published when I started with KDP.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
Difficult to believe that we are here already…Where did the Spring go?
I believe Figawi is scheduled this weekend and if that Northeaster hits the seas will be a little choppy…
Anyway, time to unpack my white jeans and get some semblance of warmer weather into my wardrobe even if it is still hidden under my winter coat or heavy sweatshirt.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend to you. Stay safe and I will write again in June.
Hugs,
Sharon
